The rise of e-commerce has created new opportunities for the exchange of artworks.
In recent years, purchasing artworks online has gained significant popularity among art enthusiasts, gradually capturing a considerable share of the art market.
Major international auction houses such as Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Phillips, and Bonhams have increasingly turned to online auctions especially since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to facilitate and enhance the exchange of artworks.
But how are online auctions conducted, and how do they differ from live auctions?
The main difference lies only in the way participants join the bidding process. In this type of auction, artworks just like in live sales are displayed publicly for two days, allowing everyone to view them in person.
During this period, the works are also accessible through the auction catalog and website. Registered bidders can take part in the online sale from the very beginning of the exhibition until the moment each lot is introduced in the online auction.
The final stage of bidding begins at 6 p.m. on Friday (October 3), providing participants with much more time to make decisions regarding purchases and participation in the sale.
The 24th Tehran Auction is dedicated to showcasing works of contemporary art as well as emerging artists in Iran’s art market. This auction is held online simultaneously with the exhibition.
