Statement:

In the world of art, names matter. In the modern era, as we engage with contemporary art, certain names become iconic-names whose lifetimes or specific works mark turning points in art history.

Their influence extends beyond geographical boundaries, making them figures who belong to the entire world of art. Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is one such name-one of the towering figures of modern art, whose impact shaped numerous artistic movements that followed.///

His fame transcends the realm of art, reaching a vast and diverse global audience, a testament to the significance of his legacy. This recognition and stature are also deeply felt in Iran.

In the early decades of the twentieth century, modern painters grappled with a fundamental question: where do the boundaries between painting, imagery, and other artistic media lie?

This inquiry led to extensive experimentation-ranging from the invention of collage and assemblage to innovations in printmaking, installation art, and even light painting.

During these transformative years, Picasso's lived experience and his embrace of groundbreaking techniques such as printmaking not only allowed him to cultivate his individual creativity but also expanded his presence across diverse artistic fields, fostering greater learning and broader experimentation.

These experiences, in turn, helped shape artistic values in contemporary times, providing new avenues for the reproduction of artworks and a stronger presence within the art economy.

Picasso's bold engagement with these forms secured his place in the world's leading modern art museums-including the distinguished collection of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.

The exhibition "Picasso in Tehran" presents a narrative of Picasso's life and the artistic periods he traversed. At the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, alongside his works, we also showcase pieces by his contemporaries- artists who shared his styles and perspectives.

Moreover, we have sought to highlight Picasso's influence on Iranian artists. This exhibition offers an opportunity for reflection and reconsideration of the history of modern art, both globally and within Iran.
