In 2014, Ab Anbar Gallery was opened in an old, three-story building in the Davazeh Dowlat district with a show by Babak Golkar, and continued its activity until the fall of 2019 in the same place.
The Gallery’s exhibition space consisted of three main halls located on two floors and a warehouse-like basement with a short ceiling. There was also a showcase-like space called W01 next to the gallery's entrance which could only hold one work and was usually dedicated to artworks by prominent artists. Beside this gallery, there was a space called Platform 28 which was active by focusing on architecture.
Most of Ab Anbar Gallery's exhibitions were dedicated to Iranian artists living and working outside of Iran, with a few exceptions. A book about each show and the artists was published at the same time alongside every show. In this book, in addition to publishing the artworks, texts were dedicated to explaining and interpreting these works.
Some of the prominent artists whose works have been shown in this gallery are Bahman Mohassess and Behjat Sadr. The gallery also hosted works by artists whose works had been rarely shown in the country. Among these artists we can mention Anahita Razmi, Y.Z. Kami, Avish Khobrezadeh and Timo Nasseri.
Ab Anbar Gallery has been active in the international arena and has participated in art fairs such as Artissima, Art Dubai, and Contemporary Istanbul. This gallery has also participated in Teer Art.
The gallery's very last show in Tehran was the David Burnett photographs show, after which the gallery ceased its activities in that place. Ab Anbar has set up multiple shows in London's Cromwell Place since 2021.
