Statement:
To start the year 2024, L'Atlas invites the Iranian-London gallery Ab-Anbar for two successive exhibitions. The second, The eternal inner reconstruction , will be a solo exhibition by Iranian artist Baktash Sarang.
After his multidisciplinary projects which focused on the phenomenology of space and place, seeking a more precise meaning to the word "limitation", Baktash Sarang works on the design and construction of architectural structures close to the human body, as well as on the relationships between the individual, his own body and his bodily boundaries, inspired by the philosophical and political theories of Gilles Deleuze and Michel Foucault.///
Baktash Sarang (Tehran – 1981) lives and works between Paris and Tehran. He creates works about the human body and its connection to its environment and habitat. He uses various mediums including drawing, architecture and sculpture, and more recently installation and model construction.
Sarang studied fine arts at the IRIB art school in Tehran, before graduating in visual arts from Azad University of Art and Architecture (Iran) in 2005.
He later moved in Strasbourg, where he took a course in metal sculpture at the Ecole des Arts du Rhin. He was selected as an artist in residence by the Academy of Fine Arts, the Institut de France and the Dufraine Foundation, before studying at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, where he received a master's degree in 2015.
Recently, in addition to drawing, he works on installation projects related to architectural issues. Sarang studied the fall of utopian projects in Tower of Silence (Tower of Babel) , drawing inspiration from historical Iranian towers and the relationship between the human body and architectural spaces, to create his sculptures.
Sarang has participated in several personal and group exhibitions, as well as biennials, including the Venice International Architecture Biennale in 2018.
