Dastan presents Kiarash Alimi’s curated exhibition titled “The Joy of Painting”, a selection of works from Kiarash Alimi, Taha Heydari, Yasaman Nozari, Ziba Rajabi and Sam Samiee at Dastan’s Basement. The exhibition will be open for public viewing from August 13 through August 27, 2021. The joys of painting are not few. The painter brings order to the world, makes decisions for the image, and works the heart with the surface that it has brought to bear. So much agency is joyous, but can it carry the weary and the confused from where they are to the canvas? It is for the other that the main motivation to work arises. It is a penchant for dialogue, a painterly wisdom now coming forth. The painter constructs the images for an other and this for-other-ness of the image is meant to take her beyond herself, to imagine another place. This wanting-to-tell-it-to-somebody and letting-yourself-be oozes out of every stroke. Where there is this passion for expression, “safā" emerges. For it (safā) to flow, the interlocutor must become transparent, become one with everything, become infinite through repeating herself, and stand in the place of everything: She may become the body of speech or the mouth of an event; she may at times be a reader; a listener at other times; her words are the potion made of all these ingredients, but it's the "other" (and not the "self") that peruses the potion thus brewed. - Photo Installation by Matin Jameie
