Legacy Trilogy: Past Edition - Online Viewing

ARTEEAST LAUNCHES LEGACY TRILOGY FUNDRAISING EXHIBITION ON ARTSY The Legacy Trilogy: Past, Present, Future exhibition highlights over 50 artists, celebrating ArteEast’s legacy of supporting artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and its diasporas. ArteEast is pleased to announce Legacy Trilogy: Past, Present, Future, an online fundraising exhibition launching from March 7 - April 7, 2021 on Artsy. Consisting of three chapters: Past, Present, Future; the show celebrates ArteEast’s legacy of supporting artists and curators from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and its diasporas./// The Past edition features artists who have been part of ArteEast’s programming since its inception in 2003. The artists included range from emerging to those who have long been established in the contemporary art world, a number of whom appeared as young artists in early exhibitions by ArteEast. Other artists in the exhibition include participants from a range of ArteEast’s public programs over the years, including artist residencies, panel discussions, artist talks, and more. Artists in the Past edition include: Tarek Al-Ghoussein, Ibrahim Ahmed, Hadieh Shafie, Nicky Nodjoumi, Huda Lutfi and Vartan Avakian, among others. For the Present edition, ArteEast invited curators, scholars, and renowned voices within the field of contemporary art, with whom ArteEast has worked over the years, to nominate exhibiting artists. Nominators including Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi (Founder of the Barjeel Art Foundation), Stephen Stapleton (Founding Director of Edge of Arabia), Nathalie Ackawi (Co-Director of the Beirut Art Residency) and Anlam de Coster (Independent Curator) have nominated both established and emerging artists, including Diana Al Halabi, Ahmed Mater, Khalid Albaih, Lara Nasser, and Aslı Çavuşoğlu. Future looks ahead, creating a space for ArteEast to forge networks with new generations of artists. Selected by the ArteEast curatorial team, the Future edition features practitioners who reflect intrepid voices from the MENA region and its diasporas including: Yasmine Nasser Diaz, Rafram Chaddad, Sara Ouhaddou and Laila Tara H. “We are thrilled to be able to present such an astounding collection of art for sale and honored to have worked with such incredible artists and curatorial talent to bring it to fruition. It is truly a representation of all that is ArteEast - our past, present, and very bright future,” said ArteEast Board President Naila Farouky. The Legacy Trilogy exhibition was curated and organized by Olivia Farhat, Lila Nazemian and Beth Stryker. Virtual parallel programming will run throughout the exhibition. Special Artist Spotlight interviews will highlight featured artists and collaborators, including Egyptian artist Ganzeer, Lebanese artists Lara Tabet and Hiba Kalache, and many more. The Legacy Trilogy fundraising exhibition will primarily support the digitization, preservation, and presentation of ArteEast’s ArteArchive, a legacy resource consisting of thousands of films and video works by artists from the MENA region and its diasporas, collected over ArteEast’s seventeen years of programming. ArteEast will also be sharing a portion of proceeds from Legacy Trilogy with participating artists. ArteEast is pleased to announce our partnership with Artsy, the leading global online marketplace for discovering, collecting, and selling art by leading artists. As our Marketplace Partner, Artsy will provide a unique opportunity for ArteEast to promote the project to Artsy’s global audience. Collectors can experience Legacy Trilogy on Artsy to discover artists, save favorite works, view works on their home walls through Artsy’s AR mobile tool, and directly purchase works.

ArteEast is proud to present the Legacy Trilogy series of exhibitions celebrating the organization’s legacy as a forum for contemporary art practices from the Middle East North Africa region. This fundraising exhibition consists of three parts: Past, Present, and Future.
