Statement:

Mythical creatures of Iran, Djins, Deevs, Boogies are part of our rich mythology. The importance of this section of our folklore is overshadowed by the great deeds of our Heroes and their extraordinary powers.

Despite all, these stories have continued as part of our great tradition of storytelling over centuries. 

These creatures are mysterious and often frightening, and have their roots in fear of the unknown and the vulnerability of people.

Shaghayegh Soozankar takes on the task of visualizing these mythical creatures. 

Artist attempts to preserve their characteristics. Much like the old entertainers; the Gusans, the Huniyagars, and the Naqals she retells the stories of the creatures and by proxy the mindset of people who created them.///

In redeeming these tales and attaching new medium to them, artist attempts to bring them back to life again. She believes that disappearance of any part of our culture can lead to greater losses in our collective identity as a nation and culture.

In settings that resemble mini-theatres, often with circular lines and attractive color pallets, she embarks on a journey of recognition and recovery, reflecting echoes of the past.

Her own journey of self-deliberation runs parallel and raises questions about Being and Non Existence. An internal dialogue of wandering and perplexity, between reality and imagination.
