Statement:

There are two narratives:

First narrative:

This narrative is dominant and authoritative, has a clear structure, is inflexible, adorned, and in a word, it is suitable for the daily consumption of society.

Second narrative:

This narrative is simple and straightforward; it unfolds without a plan; it is continuous in motion; it is rational and acceptable.///

Within these narratives, I/we are in rotation, bouncing from one side to another; there is no starting or ending point; accepting each one reconstructs us;

us,

our inner selves,

and our outer selves.

Amirmahdy Zahedy

This is Amirmahdi Zahedy's second solo exhibition. In both exhibi- tions and in the small and scattered collections he has worked on over the years, he has contemplated the "self." The "self" is not just as a "subject" but with all the determinations that come with existing and living in the world for him.

In the collection "Clown; Untitled," he contemplates living in the world of events. From his perspective, there are two narratives for each event; the dominant narrative and the true narrative. We, who are in the midst of these two narratives, shape and accept each of these events.

The "Clown" is situated where we, in the movement between these two narratives, are wandering between the dominance of authority and our own human agency. The dominant narrative seeks to erase our power of action, but our human agency strives to keep alive under the pressure of the prevailing narrative. Like a jester in the circus who, with all its ridiculous movements, aims to reveal a truth.
