Sheida Soleimani is using the gallery space to tell the story of her unique family. It is Soleimani's first solo show in Providence, where she lives. Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts covered part of the costs of this show. Sheida Soleimani has used tableau photography for the last decade to show a critical perspective on political geography, particularly Middle Eastern-American relations. In photography and painting, works, where it seems the person or subject is completely unaware of the presence of the viewer and installations of this type, produce unusual and uncommon displays known as the tableau. As a first, Soleimani narrates her family's story clearly in this show. Her work entitled "Ghostwriter" reflects memories and experiences of her family in Iran and later in America. she as an author of her mother and father's experiences weaves together collective memories and personal narratives. In her works, the space and the subject of the work are interwoven in countless layers of the photograph. The elements used in Soleimani collages come from many different sources. One of the elements of her work in this exhibition is Chuckar Partridge, the national bird of Iran, which she was preserved in her wild bird rehabilitation clinic. A patterned curtain inspired by the ancient and Iranian edition of Snakes and ladders transforms the gallery space into a theatre scene of memories. The designs on the wall and floor of the gallery depict a map of her parents' courtyard in Iran. Through her work, Sheida Soleimani explores the dichotomy between her Iranian and American roots. She was born in 1990 in America. She often adapts imagery from popular media and presents them in alternative scenarios, including photographs, moving images, sculpture, and theatre.
