O Gallery presents “Uneasy Ancestry”, a selection of paintings and sculptures by Mahsa Karimi (b. 1981 Sabzevar), marking the artist’s second exhibition with the gallery.
The process of creating my artwork:
I always think about the difficult and tied situation of today human life and I try to cope with the awkwardness and disability of man in the face of his problems!
We are constantly failing in our relationships, friendships, and also in our political and social aspirations, but we are still happy to continue with the slightest success!
I often run away from the fear of the everyday bad news into the quiet solitude of my art studio, and by portraying my fears I achieve a balance, however unstable and short-lived, and I master this endless darkness in my imagination.
I do not trust what I have learned, I mean the visual storage of my mind, and common techniques, instead I prefer to experience and discover various ways of working according to the subject of my artwork.
Through these experiments and visual studies and also drawing in my sketchbook, I can answer many of my visual questions.
In most of my art works, the disability of my sister “Melika”, the deformed shape of her face and body , finds its way into my paintings and offers a new definition of beauty.
Two important and undeniable issues in my work are destruction and accident. In most cases, I encourage formal incident, and sometimes I come up with an image with the desired details, and then I destroy it to the extent that I know is necessary.
From the heart of this elimination, destruction and accident, I approach my mental concepts and by organizing the created forms, I achieve the proper composition of that narrative.
To me, there is no absolute method of execution, and sometimes I even discover a new technique based on what I want to say.
