Aileen Bahmanipour

- Solo Show

21 Jun - 31 Jul, 2021

Glass Box Projects is pleased to present new works by Aileen Bahmanipour. Bahmanipour’s practice concerns collecting and decontextualizing diagrammatic imagery to create a new non-functional system or a system that consumes its own parts. Generated by the limitation imposed by the Iranian government on Internet access in Iran; since 2009, Bahmanipour has been interested in using non-political accessible images and diagrams from the World Wide Web, transforming and altering them into different visual forms of study in systematic non-functionality and stupidity. Aileen Bahmanipour is an Iranian-Canadian visual artist. She is a first generation immigrant from Iran. Bahmanipour is currently living and working on the unceded territories of the xwməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. She has received her BFA in Painting from the Art University of Tehran and MFA in Visual arts from the University of British Columbia. Bahmanipour has exhibited her work in a body of solo and group exhibitions in Iran and Canada, including her solo and group exhibitions at the Alternator Centre for the Contemporary Arts, Vancouver’s grunt gallery, Two Rivers Gallery, and thesis exhibition at Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery. She is the recipient of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council grant in 2017, Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Artist grant in 2019, Early Career Development grant from BC Arts Council in 2019, Canada Council for the Arts and BC Arts Council’s grants in 2021 and 2022.
