Statement:
In this edition of The Window Project, a collection of paintings by Mahta Azimi (b. 1999 Tehran, Iran) and Ehsan Pournejati (b. 1992 Tehran, Iran), titled "Observation" is on display.
“Since we interpret socio-political concepts through an aesthetic and visual lens, and when the stability of meaning is disrupted, thinking about the representation of our images becomes a necessity.
“Observation” is a research-based project, studying meaning and narrative with a focus on understanding the function of visual memory.///
It further investigates the boundary between observation and imagination, in other words, image and naming by concentrating on the friction and interaction between form and narrative.
The experience of the image here is a search that, rather than offering a clear and explicit answer, pursues a threshold between the named and the unnamed image.
It is an excavation of numbed memories, seeking to rename them through a visual process, founded not on recognition, but on ambiguity and on questioning of familiar forms in pursuit of new narratives.”
