Statement:
Mohsen Shahmardi, born in 1979, is a Tehran-based photographer with a background in filmmaking that has influenced his visual language.
For his first solo exhibition in France, the artist presents a selection of works dating from 2010 to 2023, taken notably in Iran and the Czech Republic, but also in China, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.///
Concerned with feelings of loneliness and fear, Mohsen Shahmardi strives to capture suspended moments. The instant a photograph is taken, time stands still, blurring the line between reality and dream.
And in that moment, he finds and conveys a fleeting sense of security—a place without fear. Solitude, however, remains present in his images. This feeling emanates from both the artist and his varied subjects: objects, animals, people, and manifests itself in his often tightly woven compositions.
His black and white photographs reflect his deep appreciation for the history of the medium and his cinematic sensibility.
A member of the National Society of Iranian Photographers, his work has been exhibited in numerous countries such as Iran, England, France, Italy, Japan, China, the Netherlands, Wales, Scotland, and the Czech Republic.
