Shirana Shahbazi Presents New Public Art Project at Grossmünster Zurich

Reading Time : 2 minutes

Shirana Shahbazi presents a new public art project at the Grossmünster in Zurich during the church’s ongoing renovation. Titled Tut um Gottes Willen etwas Tapferes (“For God’s Sake, Do Something Brave”), the project transforms the building’s scaffolding wrap into a monumental collage composed of diverse photographic images, turning the historic façade into a layered visual environment.

Bringing together different modes of photography and image-making, Shahbazi creates complex visual spaces in which relationships between images continuously shift and unfold. Known for her distinctive practice that moves between still life, architectural photography, abstraction, and staged compositions, the Iranian-Swiss artist continues her exploration of perception, representation, and the construction of images through this large-scale installation.

The project was commissioned by the Art Collection Department of the Canton of Zurich as part of its Art and Architecture program. The opening will take place on June 6, 2026, with remarks by cultural officials, curators, and invited speakers, alongside a musical program organized for the occasion, followed by a reception at the Helferei building.

Born in Tehran and based in Switzerland, Shirana Shahbazi is internationally recognized for her multidisciplinary photographic practice and has exhibited extensively in museums, biennials, and institutions worldwide.
