Pablo Picasso's Surrealist masterpiece entitled "La Fentêre Ouverte" will be auctioned for the first time with the estimated price of 14 to 24 million pounds at Christie's London on March 1. For half a century, this painting had been kept in the same European collection and will be sold at the 21st "The Art of the Surreal"  Evening Sale of the auction house. Created in 1929, this painting,   is a rare astonishing piece of Picasso's Surrealistic period, showing both Picasso and his model.

Christie's, which conducts cultural dialogues between international art centers, will hold a sales collection of 20th/21st century including "Shanghai", "London", and "The Art of the Surreal" Evening Sales. Picasso's painting "La Fenêtre Ouverte" is considered a key element at 20th/21st century sales from Shanghai to London. The scale, presentation, and eye-catching brilliant colors of this painting have made it an artwork with extraordinary visual power.

In the foreground of this painting, a pair of absolute abstract faces are present. A plaster bust is placed on the right side, which looks like the hidden image of the artist's beloved and famous model of the day, Marie-Thérèse Walter. The figurative object on the left is an amalgam of legs amputated with an arrow and is said to be a symbolic abstract representation of Picasso himself. Two minarets of St. Clotilde church can be identified in the background as well. It is said that this piece depicts an apartment in which Picasso and Marie-Thérèse Walter have been living as a hideout during their affair.

According to Olivier Camu, Deputy Chairman, Impressionist and Modern Art, Christie's:

"This powerful painting with its explosive colors dates back to the climax of Picasso's Surrealist era and two years after his relationship with Marie-Thérèse Walter. It displays a luminous mixture of emotions and different inspirations which defines the artist's life at the end of 1920s… This metamorphosed and encoded piece is a self-portrait of the artist and his blonde muse, which for the first time, will be presented to the market as one of the prominent editions in the Surrealist sales."

This brilliant work will be presented in New York from February 4 to 8, in Hong Kong from  February 15 to 17, and then it will be sent to London for both auction and public display from February 23 until March 1.
