Dorothy Lichtenstein, the widow of Roy Lichtenstein the well-known artist of the Pop movement, announced that she is going to donate the late artist's studio to the Whitney Museum of American Art. This studio is located in Washington D.C. nearby the Meatpacking District building that has been considered the home of the Whitney Museum since 2015. The studio became a place to archive and monitor Liechtenstein's work after he passed away in 1997.
Whitney Museum plans to launch "Independent Studies" in 2023 and to use Liechtenstein Studios to enhance this program. Thus this building will host artists, critics, and historians. Whitney will collaborate with Johnston Marklee to attune the studio and design the appropriate space.

Adam Weinberg, Whitney's director, said in a statement, "This is a magnificent act of generosity on the part of Dorothy Lichtenstein ... We're profoundly grateful to be entrusted with this major part of New York's cultural heritage ... programs of our Independent Study Program, nurture the next generation of artists, curators, and scholars."
