The 2026 Biennial, "Things Fall Apart", curated by Allison Glenn, explores rupture as a generative force in shaping contemporary realities. Bringing together artists whose practices reconsider the histories, geographies, and systems that inform present-day life, the exhibition seeks to offer new perspectives on understanding the world today. For the first time, the Biennial extends beyond the Greater Toronto Area through a series of artist projects and institutional collaborations across North America.

Within this context, artist, filmmaker, and human geographer Rouzbeh Akhbari, based between Toronto and Lisbon, contributes a multidisciplinary practice situated at the intersection of documentary storytelling, field research, and poetic speculation. Working across film and installation, his projects examine the political and ecological dimensions of trade, infrastructure, and imperial legacies across diverse geographies, tracing the ways historical forces continue to shape contemporary material and social landscapes.
