16th Dakar Biennale

The Dak’Art was conceived in 1989 as a biennale alternating between literature and art. Over time, it has developed into one of the leading platforms for contemporary African art, bringing together artists, curators, and audiences from across the continent and beyond. The Biennale of Contemporary African Art aims to provide a space for multiple, prejudice-free perspectives on artistic approaches and inspirations, shaped by a plurality of immediate and more distant influences.

The 16th edition of Dak’Art continues this role as a forum for exchange and reflection within contemporary art. It offers visibility to a wide range of artistic practices and fosters connections between local, regional, and international scenes, while maintaining Dakar’s position as a key site for contemporary artistic dialogue.

This place is able to speak to concerns increasingly addressed in contemporary research and exhibitions, including the intersections of environmental questions, social issues, and colonial histories. In this way, Dak’Art maintains its significance as both an exhibition platform and a site for broader cultural conversation.
