Christie's New York

The Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale features masterpieces from the most defining movements of the post-war era alongside standout examples from today’s most innovative creators.

Tracing the highest points of art history in the latter half of the 20th century, the auction features significant examples of Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting from Willem de Kooning and Helen Frankenthaler, Pop art from Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein and works which capture the radical 1980s downtown New York scene by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Martin Wong.

Major paintings by Sam Gilliam and Bob Thompson illustrate the important and influential contributions of Black American painters in defining the Washington Color School and figurative abstraction.

Masterful contemporary works by today's titans, including Gerhard Richter, George Condo and Yayoi Kusama, bring the sale's offerings to today and exemplify the energy and dynamism of 21st-century art.

Highlights also include works from prominent private and public collections as well as contemporary artworks sold in partnership with Jane Fonda to benefit the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California.
