As part of the Festival of Prints at Bonhams, the London Prints & Multiples Department presents its seasonal Prints & Multiples online sale, featuring an exceptional range of works from the 1500s to the present day, with a special focus on editions by L.S. Lowry (British, 1887-1976), one of the most celebrated Modern British artists, alongside an important collection of etchings by James Gillray (British, 1756-1815).
With number of limited edition prints by L.S. Lowry, from his well known mill scenes to his industrial landscapes, this sale covers a wide range of themes and subjects, from landscapes and seascapes to portraits and surreal imaginings, and brings together a varied selection of the different subjects for which L.S. Lowry is recognised today.
With a long-standing tradition of offering editions by the artist and the unquestionable appetite for his works, we are delighted to present a section of this sale celebrating his oeuvre as a printmaker.
Alongside, this iteration of the Bonhams Prints & Multiples online auction will feature an important collection of etchings by James Gillray. Leading caricaturist of 18th century, James Gillray, along with his contemporaries Thomas Rowlandson and Isaac Cruikshank, revolutionised the political commentary of his time, turning satire into an art form, thus keeping in check the British establishment, and radically changing the way people perceived the power administration.
