I Put A Spell On You

on view during Teer Art Week

He creates his own characters; and inscribes allusive and enlightening poems of Saadi and Hafez on their bodies. It is as if his characters are spectators of us and judge us with their mysterious smiles. He acquaints us anew with lines and colours, he draws and inscribes these lines and colours on bodies of his characters as if these lines and colours are as vital as other parts of their bodies, like their hearts. We can hardly interpret his figures as ethnic figures. You have to discover them or let them reveal themselves to you. It is exactly the closest possible way to reconstruct Middle Eastern situaton. Ariyaei knowingly or unintentonally engages us in a fresh encounter with recurrent existence of the "other". Ariyaei’s paitngs are like a window to a parallel world. A window in which people on the opposite sides stand and judge each other with their own principles. Maybe knowing this fact that he grew up with his grandmother who was an exorcist can lead to a beer understanding of his works and make them more excitng for the viewers.
