Statement:
In response to works of art, a hypothetical question arises for many professional art viewers: At what stage of creation does the artist cease to doubt their work and realize that it is complete? At which stroke of color and which line of the work?
And has the artist ever been able to step outside the circle of doubt? Any answer to this question is both easy and difficult; Easy because the physical presence of the work shows that the artist has overcome their doubt,
and Difficult because we do not have access to the artist’s state of mind. However, the art-loving mind is not bound by an answer. Just as it seeks to find something beyond the surface by searching through lines and colors, it can search for these doubts in the artwork.
The following collection is a collection of works by renowned artists who have repeatedly given us the wonder and joy of art with their works. In all these works, the artist has apparently ceased to doubt at some point, and now the result of their victory over this doubt is on the wall.
But we, as admirers of these works and devotees of art, can look at these works and see the traces of these doubts in the works and boldly ask ourselves; What if the figure of the artist’s work was sitting on a different landscape? Or If, in the doubt between two colors, the color that did not win won?
There is a famous quote by the art critic Robert Hughes that says: “The greater the artist, the more doubt they have. Complete certainty is the comforting prize given to the less capable.” A clear reference to doubt as a tool for artistic creation. For the art enthusiast, there is always room for doubt
