Statement:

Ithaque presents “Water in Iran”, an exhibition of photographs curated by Alexandre Arminjon.

This group exhibition is the result of a major photo competition launched on the theme “Iran: Water in All Its Forms,” under the patronage of Mrs.Francine Cousteau (President of the Cousteau Society) and Mr. Jean-Louis Oliver (President of the French National Water Academy).///

The exhibition is part of the international conference “Regards croisés sur les cultures de l’eau, France-Iran,” organized in Paris by videoconference with Iran (September 2024-March 2025).

This conference is hosted by the Académie des Sciences d’Outre-Mer (Paris), the Académie Nationale de l’Eau (Paris), the French-Iranian Center (Paris), the Centre de Droit Maritime et Océanique (Nantes, France), the University of Tehran, and Tarbiat Modares University (Tehran).

The aim of the contest was to combine documentary photography with experimental photography to highlight the water situation in Iran through a collective exhibition.

More than 200 photographers applied for the contest, which was judged by an Iranian jury comprising Maryam Zandi, Seifollah Samadian, Ismail Abbasi, Afshin Shahroudi, and Mohammad Reza Keyvanfar, as well as a French jury comprising Michel Poivert, Caroline Stein, Nathalie Bocher-Lenoir, Pascal Beausse, and Marie Robert.

Romin Mohtasham was selected as the winner of the competition.

The exhibition will initially take place at Ithaque from Thursday, September 12th to September 28th, before moving to the headquarters of the Académie des Sciences d’Outre-Mer on Rue Laperouse in Paris, where it will run from October 7th to October 18th, 2024.

The public opening of the exhibition at Ithaque is on Thursday, September 12th, 2024. This exhibition has been made possible with the support of many professionals, whom we wish to thank: Alireza Khalili, Shohreh Shademen, Vahid Yaghoubi, Jean Claude Voisin, and Dorsa Jalali.
