Tall Tale

Statement:

Tehran-based Bavan Gallery is proud to present its fourth contemporary art exhibition at Dubai's Foundry. Titled Tall Tales.

The Tall Tale, a form of storytelling, is a fascinating exploration of narrative through exaggeration, distortion, and imagination.

Rooted in oral traditions and folklore, tall tales typically feature larger-than-life characters, improbable events, and extravagant details that stretch the boundaries of reality. These stories are often passed down through generations, evolving and growing more elaborate with each retelling.///

Beyond its traditional roots in literature and lore, the concept of the tall tale has also found a home in the world of visual arts, where artists harness its power to captivate viewers and challenge their perceptions of reality.

Through the use of exaggeration, distortion, and manipulation of visual elements such as perspective, composition, and colour, artists create immersive worlds that defy logic and reason. By blurring the line between fact and fiction, these artists invite audiences to suspend disbelief and enter into a realm of fantasy and wonder.

In this exhibition, this idea has been implemented as a powerful tool for artists to engage viewers in imaginative storytelling and challenge their perceptions of reality.

Through exaggeration, distortion, and manipulation of vision, perspective, composition and colour, artists have created worlds that defy logic and reason, inviting viewers to suspend disbelief and enter into a realm of fantasy and wonder.

They have used the tall tale as a means of challenging perceptions of reality and engaging viewers in playful narratives.
