Statement:

Bavan Gallery is pleased to present 'Where Is the Sun?' a solo exhibition by Shabnam Jahanshahi.

In this series, I explore works in the history of art, specifically painting, and use them as examples to search for a connection to my contemporary life by adapting them.

Through this search, I hope to find answers to my questions and perhaps more questions.

One of the questions I ask is about the relationship between the truth being told, the narrator, and the recipient.

Does the recipient receive the same narrative as the narrator, or does their individual experience affect how they interpret the narrative?

I often use the tools of coexistence, movement, and changing the position of characters and places to explore this question.

One point that stands out is that the direction of light varies on each figure in each work.
