Statement:

Born in 1961 in Iran, into a family of artists, Leily Derakhshani , a graduate of the School of Dramatic Arts and Fine Arts in Tehran , lived a large part of her life as an artist outside Iran, in Europe and America.///

Strong links with his country of origin, with its traditions, its poetry, its culture, color his work with a particular color: that of exile, of nostalgia for the country left behind, of hope of return and of renewal. Somewhere between abstract painting, freed from any constraints of representation, and figurative painting anchored in an identifiable reality, Leily Derakhshani 's painting invites us into a new dimension: an imagined universe of shapes and colors, where silhouettes, faces, bodies appear, unrecognizable a priori and yet terribly close, alive, current, hearts beating and hair blowing in the wind.

They are our loved ones, our friends, those whose stories we hear, poets, writers, artists, our human brothers. We hear their voices, their songs, their poetry, we see their thirst for life.

In this new series entitled Suspended Moments , Leily Derakhshani paints a luminous and colorful world, between sky and earth, somewhere in time, where standing beings appear here and there, silhouettes of women, turned towards infinity, hair blowing in the wind .

By the choice of her vibrant colors, by the succession of broken shapes which line the background of her canvases, by this poetic staccato, Leily Derakhshani delivers to us what she imagines of the life of these beings that she paints, of the hopes which drive them, desires that cross them, aspirations that move them forward, rooted in their land.
