Schwarzschild
Hessam Samavatian - Solo Show

24 Mar - 22 Apr, 2022

Schwarzschild

In his Schwarzschild exhibition in Bildraum, Hessam Samavatian uses photography as an independent subject and motif and discovers meaning in the dark corners of photography. Without ever pressing a button on a camera, Hessam Samavatian feels his way through the theory and techniques of photography in performative, playful and poetic precision work. Using three self-developed techniques, Samavatian creates photographic images that appear familiar at first glance. But what do we actually see in it and what is behind it? In the Leaves series , it is the clear reference to naturalist and photography pioneer Anna Atkins. But Hessam Samavatian uses a completely different technique: He skips the development process and resorts to the most elementary thing — sunlight. This is how - by pure light reaction - photograms of leaves are created. The two series Photographical Landscapes and Galaxies are reminiscent of photographs of landscape horizons or galaxies, but only simulate them. In fact, these horizons and galaxies are the result of an artistic chemistry photographic paper performance in the darkroom. A game of dipping, splashing and countless repetitions.
