"Prince Claus Funds" Awards Open Call

The Prince Claus Seed Awards, which support the career development, creativity, and experimentations of emerging artists and cultural practitioners all around the world, annually identifies 100 artists and cultural practitioners who are within their first five years of professional career through the "Prince Claus Seed" award. This institute aims at providing a space for experimentation and expanding emerging artists'   perspectives on societal challenges. This award is given to those whose innovative artwork address social and political issues. Likewise, the winners are offered an investment of 5000 euros to develop their artistic practices.

The deadline for submission is March 1, 2022, at 23:59h Amsterdam Time.

Requirements for receiving this award for emerging artists and cultural practitioners are:

• Are on average in the initial 1-5 years of their professional career (academic years do not count)
• Have an artistic and innovative practice that tackles the social/political issues within their local context
• Have received little to no recognition and support for their artistic/cultural practices and have still not been recognized internationally

This institute encourages those who pursue a more experimental approach to their practices and provide opportunities for them; such as:

• Represent minority groups and marginalized communities within society
• Create a safe space for young artists, creators, and participants
• Create participation and empowerment for local communities for their freedom of speech
• Propose new narratives of history, particularly those that have been censored or marginalized for political, religious, cultural, or economic reasons
• Exchanging, collaborating, and sharing related knowledge for an environmental crisis
• Challenging gender norms

Applicants are to fill out the online submission form, send a few samples of their work along with a reference letter and answer this question: "As an artist, what motivates you the most?"
