The British government has temporarily barred the export of Paul Cézanne 19th century painting. This painting had been entrusted to the Courtauld Gallery in London since 1980.
Paul Cézanne(19 January 1839 - 22 October 1906) is a famous french artist and most striking painter of the Impressionism movement and one of the forerunners of the Post-Impressionism movement in the 19th century. After the discovery of his works during the 1890s, his innovations in style, composition, and execution had a noticeable impact on art movements and artists of the 20th century, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. As a result, Cézanne is considered the father of Modern Art by many art historians.
The painting by Paul Cézanne is one of four paintings of Normandy landscape considered valuable landscape works. It was painted on canvas by Cézanne using oil painting techniques in 1837 and is entitled "Ferme Normande, été (Hattenville)".One of the first modern painting movements, Impressionism brought together an array of artists who present their work freely and independently. The name Impressionism comes from one of the paintings of Claude Monet, the founder of Impressionism: Impression, Sunrise (French: Impression, Soleil Levant). Using light colors, Impressionist painters painted landscapes that captured light games in nature and used the light and its reflection to create transient and unstable changes.

This Impressionist piece, which is valued at ten million pounds ($13 million), was first purchased by Victor Choquet, a French art collector and an ardent propagandist of 19th century Impressionism; He owned about 32 paintings by Paul Cézanne. A while later, in 1937, the Britanian collector Samuel Courtauld, who founded the country's Courtauld Institute of Art, acquired Cézanne's painting and lent it to the Courtauld gallery in Somerset House as a long-term loan. This gallery is part of the Courtauld Art Institute, which is known for preserving works by Impressionists and art masters. Almost a decade later, Samuel Courtauld sold "Ferme Normande, été (Hattenville)" to a private collector. The current anonymous owner inherited it through descent over time.

This painting by Cézanne is one of the most valuable works of art that has been prohibited to be exported by the British government. Following U.K. government policy, public institutions have until the end of July to provide funds for the purchase and preservation of Cézanne works.
The spokesperson of the Courtauld  Institutes stated: "The private owner of the painting has not at any point offered it as a gift to the Courtauld...and the university museum is not able to mount campaigns to raise funds for the purchase of significant works of art such as this,"

"It would be a profound misfortune if this beguiling work could not be retained in this country," said Christopher Baker, a member of the reviewing committee.
