Author : Soheila Habibi

Negar Farajiani's project, the book entitled "Tehran Monoxide" was published on February 1st, 2022. UCI Jordan Center for Persian Studies & Culture has published this book. The editor of "Tehran Monoxide" is Ashkan Zahraei. The articles from Deanna Kashani, Sarah MaskeBehzad Khosravi Noori, and Hoofar Haghighi are attached.

This book is an overview of "Tehran Monoxide", an in-progress project with artistic and social themes, which is launched in 2010 by Negar Farajiani, a Tehran-based artist and curator. Various activities and attitudes have been engaged in this project at different times, namely; holding an art exhibition in a school, conversations with Tehran citizens in a pharmacy in the city center, studying the impact of houseplants on pollution, or selling the same types of plants on a street corner in Tehran, planting a garden of car exhaust pipes in a place where there are no trees, trying to teach children or learn from them. Simple questions about Tehran air pollution led to activities that created green spaces in classrooms and corners far and near. "Tehran Monoxide" narrates these ten years.

There are five main chapters in this 452-page book each looking at a different phase of "Tehran Monoxide" and describing the various stages of the project and the people involved. Every chapter in "Tehran Monoxide" contains many images, many of them the result of large-scale projects in Tehran and the participation of numerous students that increasingly, took on more importance, activities, and dynamism from the start of the project. Other elements of the book, such as documents, graphics, and other elements, play a significant part in completing and enhancing the written narrative. Additionally, the book contains appendices, including three articles about "Tehran Monoxide", an analysis of unfulfilled plans, a timeline, and a Tehran map showing the locations of various parts of the project.
