"Tails of the Lost Dreams"; Nikzad Nodjoumi's Solo Show

Author : Sara Taheran

Reading Time : 2 Minutes

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, Taymour Grahne Projects will host a solo show titled "Tails of the Lost Dream" by Nikzad Nodjoumi (b. 1942, Kermanshah), a US-based Iranian artist, at Holland Park, London.

About Nikzad Nodjoumi

Nikzad Nodjoumi, also known as Nicky, is an Iranian painter and illustrator who, according to himself, started painting by copying Russian painters such as Ilya Repin and Ivan Shishkin and then studied painting academically. In the mid-1960s, after graduating from the Fine Arts Faculty, he started to work as a children's book illustrator at Negareh graphics studio. His illustrations in the book "Crystal Flower and the Sun" were among his first works, which introduced him as a significant figure of the golden generation of this field. Nodjoumi moved to the US in 1960. He wanted to continue his academic studies in France, but the 1968 riots made him change his plan. Because of his political interests, after moving to the US, he established a print studio to produce occasional posters. It seems that since the beginning, his conception of art was nothing but to reflect sociopolitical issues, as he has always insisted on merging art and politics. Painting is a tool for him to depict power relations and stressful historical-social occasions mainly rooted in his lived experience in two completely different geographic contexts (Iran and the US); sometimes by rendering the clothes of politicians combined with humorous elements and sometimes by creating images on the world's most famous magazines. During more than six decades of his artistic career, Nodjoumi's attention to political context derived from history has always been considered the central element of his works and the link between his previous and current paintings. To tell his story, he often represents the figures in dark and painful landscapes to propound the question of how it is possible to display something unpleasant and then use it for educational purposes.

Introduction to Taymour Grahne Projects

Taymour Grahne Projects, founded in 2020, is an art gallery in London aiming to display the most exciting works of contemporary art physically and online. In addition to exhibiting works by emerging international artists, Taymour Grahne Projects has worked with collaborative artists who have cooperated with the gallery in executing artistic projects for a long time. By changing the traditional way of introducing artists, Taymour Grahne Projects, as a member of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA), pioneers a new intuitive way that promotes artists and helps them develop their art.
