The Independent art fair, New York, held its 13th edition in Spring Studio from May 5 to May 8. Details of the event, in which sixty-six galleries participated from all over the world, were available to the public through the online platform a week before the official launch. The platform is available from April 28 to four weeks after the in-person event. The idea of founding Independent was formed in 2009, with the collaboration of some independent galleries. After the event was successful in its first three years, it launched independent projects in 2014 and organized solo exhibitions as well.

In general, Independent is one of the well-known art fairs in the international world of art and its atmosphere and approach create a different artistic experience for the participating artists and their audiences. This year’s artistic programs have been selected by Matthew Higgs in which galleries, museums, and independent art institutes participated. One of the distinctive parts of the 13th edition of the Independent art fair was the participation of more than 100 artists presenting their artworks in solo and duo exhibitions. During the event, in addition to showcasing the artworks of 66 galleries, Independent focused on holding other programs such as interviews, art talks, podcasts, etc. This approach was mostly for paying attention to underrated performances and artworks which are created in the artist’s personal studios.

Galleries with different artistic approaches from all over the world participated in this event, including Gentil Carioca from Rio de Janeiro, Adams and Ollman from Portland, Approach Gallery from London, and Broadway Gallery from New York.
