Sao Paulo Art Biennale has announced the names of four curators for its 2023 edition who will manage the event titled "In a Decentralized Manner". The group consists of an anthropologist, a museum director, a curator, and an artist who will collaborate to create Latin America's largest biennial. This team includes Hélio Menezes, Grada Kilomba, Manuel Borja-Villel, and Diane Lima according to the Sao Paulo Art Biennale announcement. Biennials, like Sao Paulo Biennial, are usually managed by a team with the oversight of a senior curator. If so a set of organizers with a different attitude are needed.

Manuel Borja-Villel is Director of the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid. He has previously been the director of the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. His goal is to introduce emerging figures to art history and to keep exhibitions from being dominated by the format of most best-selling exhibitions.

Kilomba is focused on decolonial perspectives in her research, and her works have previously been presented in the 2016 Bienal de Sao Paulo.

Lima is currently working on the curatorial committee of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of Sao Paulo. she is an independent curator and recently she will present a program at the Pivô Art Space.

Menezes has worked as curator of contemporary art at Centro Cultural Sao Paulo for three years and was awarded recognition as co-curator of "Afro-Atlantic Histories", a 2018 survey about the transatlantic slave trade presented at the Museu de Arte de So Paulo.

José Olympio da Veiga Pereira is recognized as one of ARTnews Top 200 collectors and serves as president of the foundation that facilitates the biennial. "The curatorial team was formed following a joint proposal which captivated us for being ambitious and intriguing." He said in a statement.
