Azad Art Gallery is one of the established galleries of Tehran which was founded in 1998 in the Fatemi district by Rozita Sharafjahan and Mohsen Nabizadeh. With solo and group shows of young artists taking a novel approach to art, the gallery became one of the first ones to embrace new media such as video art, installation, and performance. In addition to hosting exhibitions and cultural programs, Azad Art Gallery used to hold events such as critique sessions, including "Group 30" meetings among them.
In September 2008, Azad Art Gallery began the poster project in collaboration with "Kargah Studio" which became one of the longest and most productive contemporary graphic projects in Iran. During this ten-year project, a poster was designed for each show by a young artist.
The Azad Art Gallery has published books of artists' artworks in collaboration with Nazar Publication. It also publishes a quarterly magazine "Nameye Azad" on art news and the activities of the gallery's artists.
