8 Sep, 2023 - 14 Jan, 2024
Established in 2019, The Immigrant Artist Biennial (TIAB) is an artist run project, conceived by Ukrainian born, NYC based artist, curator, educator and organizer, Katya Grokhovsky. TIAB is nomadic, shaping its identity as it roams, conceptually establishing its own territory.
TIAB presents immigrant artists in numerous ways and through various formats, seeking to facilitate a platform of support for projects by often overlooked and silenced voices. The project draws a diverse audience nationally and internationally, with a strong community in New York. The biennial is funded through its host partners, grants, sponsorships, donations, fundraisers, crowdfunding and its Patron Circle.///
Postponed until 2023, the second edition of TIAB: Contact Zone centers U.S. and international immigrant and exiled artists and explores how storytelling, embodied memory, and projections of diasporic futures can be strategies for straddling different cultural and political terrains.
TIAB 2023 is co-curated by Katherine Adams, Bianca Abdi-Boragi and Anna Mikaela Ekstrand and will present Contact Zones (exhibitions), Field Work (panels), and Arena (performances and screenings), taking place across seven venues, including Brooklyn Museum, EFA Project Space, NARS Foundation Gallery, Artists Alliance Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space, Wendy’s Subway, Alchemy gallery, Accent Sisters in addition to a Field Guide (catalog) in September-December 2023, presenting 48 artists from over 35 countries.
