The Gangwon Triennale was established in 2013 to successfully host the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics as a cultural Olympics. Following this, in 2019, it changed its foundation from a biennial biennale to a three-year cycle regional triennial, and is hosting the Gangwon Artist Triennale, Gangwon Kids Triennial, and Gangwon International Triennale. The Gangwon Triennale aims to transform the entire Gangwon-do into an art park and tourism destination, and strives to realize the identity and value of Gangwon-do through art through resident participation and regeneration of idle spaces, and to leave it as a regional heritage.
The theme of Gangwon International Triennail 2024 - EcoArt from Below: Gangwon, Learning from Ant Hole - asks questions about 'attitude', 'hierarchy', and 'community' through ant holes. The exhibition reorganizes the relationship between humans and nature from the perspective of attitude rather than completed form, below the ground rather than above the ground.
