Davood Emdadian (1944-2004) is a painter of nature and trees. Throughout his career, he used a poetic approach to record and represent the glory of nature, and displayed a profound and allegorical view of Iranian art in association with landscapes reminiscent of the nineteenth-century romantic style.
Born in Tabriz, he learned the basics of art at Mirak Fine Art School and held the first exhibitions of his works. Emdadian studied at the Faculty of Decorative Arts and immigrated to France to continue his education for a master's degree in visual arts at Sorbonne University in Paris.
Emdadian has figurative paintings and still lives as well, but trees have become the most distinctive symbols of his works and are present in most of his paintings. Rock-like trees, despite their constant repetition in paintings, each tell their unique spirit, story, and visual features. The choice of color palettes, the play of light and shadow, composition, and framing, are the most important features that are accurately and artistically displayed in Emdadan's trees.
Over the years, Davood Emdadian has presented his works in numerous exhibitions in Iran and abroad and has won awards, including the "4th Prize" from the International European Art Show, Karlsruhe Offerta, Germany, the "Taylor Foundation" Award, and the "Charles Oulmont Foundation" Award.
This artist passed away in 2004 in Paris. The "Davood Emdadian's Paintings" show at Hoor Art Gallery can be mentioned as one of his most notable exhibitions. Also, the "Journey to the Self" show was held in 2017 by Morteza Asadi in memory of Davood Emdadian at Aria Gallery.
In 2017, one of Davood Emdadian's works was sold at Tehran Auction. Also, in recent years, group shows such as "Opportunity" at the Iranian Artist Forum in 2022 and "Har Dam Az In Baagh" at Javid Art Gallery in 2021, have hosted a number of works by this artist.
